Insilico Medicine, a biotech firm, plans to build an artificial intelligence "digital Einstein" to transform drug discovery. The company says expanding its research in China is key to beating global rivals.
The Hong Kong Investment Corporation-backed company made its market debut on Tuesday. Founder Alex Zhavoronkov described biotechnology as a high-risk "molecular casino," where scientists lose 90% of the time even with AI.
The 11-year-old company believes its AI platform can improve those odds. The system is designed to speed up the identification of new drug targets and the creation of potential medicines.
Insilico will use its new funding and China's research ecosystem to develop this technology. The goal is to create a dominant AI tool that reduces the high cost and failure rate of traditional drug development.
