King Charles III has named actor Idris Elba and ice skating legends Torvill and Dean in his New Year Honours list.
The list recognizes more than 1,150 people for their work in politics, sport, the arts, and community service. Awards range from Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) to knighthoods and damehoods, which are the highest honours.
Elba, famous for roles in "Luther" and "The Wire," was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). The award is for his services to drama and charity.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, the iconic ice dancing pair, each receive a knighthood and damehood. They are honored for their services to ice skating and charity. The duo won Olympic gold in 1984.
The honours list is published twice a year to celebrate outstanding achievements by British citizens and others.
