UN Votes 123-0: Israel Must Withdraw from Occupied Golan

The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly reaffirmed Syria's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a territory occupied by Israel for nearly six decades. Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ibrahim Olabi, stated the vote this month saw 123 countries support a resolution. The resolution demands Israel’s complete withdrawal from the area. Zero countries voted against it. “Israel continues its occupation of the Syrian Golan,” Olabi said. The Golan Heights is a strategic plateau. Israel captured it from Syria in the 1967 war and later annexed it, a move not recognized internationally. The annual UN vote highlights the ongoing dispute.
