A man has confessed to planting pipe bombs outside the two main U.S. political party headquarters in Washington, D.C., the day before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The Department of Justice stated that Brian Cole was arrested in Virginia. He is charged with placing two improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, near the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee buildings.
According to officials, Cole walked federal agents through his alleged plot. He described how he placed the bombs on the evening of January 5, 2021.
The devices were discovered and disabled before they could explode. No one was injured.
Cole now faces serious federal charges for the alleged attack. The investigation is ongoing.
