Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced a deadly clash during a security operation in Yalova on Tuesday. Police targeted a group suspected of links to the ISIS militant group.
Minister Yerlikaya stated that three police officers were killed during the raid. Eight other officers and one civilian guard were wounded.
Security forces "neutralized" six suspected ISIS members at the scene, the minister reported. Turkish authorities often use the term "neutralized" to mean killed.
Following the incident, Turkey's media watchdog, RTÜK, issued a temporary broadcasting ban on the event. Such bans are commonly imposed during ongoing security operations in Turkey.
