Thirty-six years after the Velvet Revolution ended communist rule, the Czech Republic faces a new political shift. This peaceful uprising led to a non-violent transition of power in the former Czechoslovakia.
Today, the country's political landscape is changing again. Last month, the party of former Prime Minister Andrej Babis won the parliamentary election. His party, described by some as "Trumpist," is returning to government.
In light of this change, Perspective spoke with David Ondracka. He is the author of a book on the Czech state and a former head of the local Transparency International branch. His work focuses on why the state, in his view, does not work effectively.
