Hong Kong authorities have paid out roughly 30% of a major relief fund for victims of last month's deadly Tai Po fire. The fund totals HK$4.1 billion (US$528 million).
A government spokeswoman confirmed the disbursement. "The total financial commitment of the various support measures in place so far is around HK$1.2 billion," she said. This sum represents about 30% of the dedicated Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court.
Officials have also distributed more than 45,000 donated goods to affected residents. The fire occurred in a public housing estate last month, causing multiple fatalities and displacing hundreds.
