In a significant diplomatic move, the defense ministers of Syria and Qatar held a telephone discussion on Sunday.
Syrian Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Murhaf Abu Qasra spoke with Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense, Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.
The two officials discussed issues of shared concern. They also talked about the latest regional and international developments.
The call marks a notable step in relations between Damascus and Doha. High-level public contact between the two governments has been uncommon for years.
