A senior Republican lawmaker says recent U.S. military strikes in Nigeria and Syria are not a change in policy.
Mike Turner, a congressman on the House Armed Services Committee, spoke on Sunday. He said the strikes follow a long-standing U.S. goal to combat Islamic State (ISIS) extremism.
Turner stated the operations are a "continuation of our conflict with [the Islamic State]." He argued this approach has been consistent across both of President Donald Trump's terms.
The comments come after U.S. strikes in Nigeria targeted ISIS-linked militants. The U.S. has warned more strikes in Nigeria are possible.
