A growing number of nations and international bodies are condemning Israel's recent decision to recognize the breakaway region of Somaliland.
The move has triggered a diplomatic backlash. Countries including Türkiye, Venezuela, and several Arab and African states have issued statements labeling the recognition as illegal.
Multiple regional organizations have joined the criticism. They unanimously reaffirm their support for the Federal Republic of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but is not recognized by the UN or any member state. Israel's policy shift, aimed at gaining a strategic foothold in the Horn of Africa, has instead united much of the international community in opposition.
