A senior official at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has publicly criticized a defense lawyer involved in a major case. The lawyer, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was accused of creating social media content while a court order restricts public statements.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin made the remark. She said Abrego Garcia was "making TikToks" instead of focusing on the legal proceedings. A gag order, which is a judge's instruction limiting what parties can say publicly, is currently in effect.
The case details remain confidential due to the order. The DHS comment highlights rising tensions between the agency and the defense team.
Abrego Garcia has not yet responded to the accusation.
