China Digs Deep: Spiral Ramp Completed for World's Largest Nuclear Waste Lab

China has finished building a unique spiral ramp at the site of one of the world's biggest underground nuclear waste laboratories. The China National Nuclear Corporation announced the milestone on Friday. The laboratory is in the remote Beishan area of the Gobi Desert. Its goal is to research the safe, permanent disposal of radioactive material. This is a major challenge for countries using nuclear power.
