Hong Kong police have arrested a 62-year-old local man after airport security found an extendable baton in his checked luggage. The flight was destined for the United States.
This is the second time this week authorities have discovered an unauthorized weapon in airline baggage. Police received the report on Friday after security staff made the find.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the man had hidden a suspected extendable baton, an unauthorised weapon, in his checked suitcase,” a police spokesperson said.
Extendable batons, which can be quickly expanded for use, are classified as prohibited weapons in Hong Kong. The man remains in custody as inquiries continue.
