Turkey has strongly criticized Israel's reported move to recognize Somaliland as an independent country.
Burhanettin Duran, Turkey's communications director, stated the action is a clear "violation of international law." He said Turkey will "firmly support" Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991. However, no United Nations member state officially recognizes it as a separate nation. Somalia considers Somaliland part of its territory.
The Israeli government has not yet made an official announcement. If confirmed, this recognition would mark a major shift in regional diplomacy.
Turkey maintains close ties with the Somali government in Mogadishu, providing aid and military training. This statement underscores its strong position against any change to Somalia's borders.
