Typo Trouble: 90% of Parked Web Domains Now Host Scams

A simple typing error could now lead directly to fraud or a computer virus. New research from cybersecurity company Infoblox shows a dramatic shift in the use of "parked" internet domains. Parked domains are website addresses that are registered but not built into active sites. They were once mostly blank pages or used for advertising. Now, over 90% of them automatically redirect visitors to malicious sites. These sites push scams, phishing attempts, or malware—software designed to damage or access a device without permission. The danger is highest when a user mistypes a popular website address. A single wrong letter can send them to a dangerous copycat page. Experts warn users to check web addresses carefully. They also recommend using bookmarks for important sites instead of typing them each time.
