Knitters Protest Trump with "Weapons of Mass Construction"

Fiber artists across the United States are turning their crafts into tools for protest. They use knitting and yarn to demonstrate against policies from immigration enforcement to abortion rights. In early October, Tracy Wright organized a group of knitters in Portland, Oregon. They gathered outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. Wright called their knitting needles "weapons of mass construction." The action responded to an order from former President Donald Trump. He had deployed national guard troops to the city. Trump described Portland as "war ravaged" and said ICE facilities were "under siege" by anti-fascist activists. This movement, known as "craftivism," uses peaceful creative acts as political statement.
