Two former senior Turkish football officials have been taken to court following their detention in an investigation into an alleged conspiracy. The case centers on claims that a 2011 match-fixing probe was a "plot" against the club Fenerbahçe.
Former Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Vice-President Lütfi Arıboğan and former executive İlhan Helvacı were sent to a judge with a request for judicial control. This measure can include conditions like travel bans or regular police check-ins.
They were detained over allegations of involvement in a "kumpas" – a Turkish term for a trap or frame-up. This refers to claims that the original match-fixing case was a conspiracy against Fenerbahçe officials who were later acquitted.
In the same operation, former club executive Ebru Köksal and former player Ahmet Gülüm were released by the prosecutor after giving statements. The investigation continues.
