Japanese tech giant Fujitsu has joined a major project to build next-generation memory for artificial intelligence. The project is led by investment firm SoftBank Group.
The goal is to create specialized memory hardware that works much faster and uses less power than current technology. This new hardware is considered essential for the future of advanced AI.
The research group, called the "High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) Research Consortium," will focus on a key component. This component, an "interposer," connects different chips inside a computer. Improving it is crucial for making AI systems that can learn and respond faster.
Fujitsu's role will be to design and test prototype chips using its advanced packaging technology. The company stated this move is part of its strategy to expand in the fast-growing AI market.
The consortium ultimately aims to develop memory systems that are 100 times faster than today's best technology. If successful, this could dramatically accelerate the development of more powerful and efficient AI.
