Algeria began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a strong win. They defeated Sudan 3-1 in their Group E opener in Rabat.
Star forward Riyad Mahrez was the key player. He scored two goals to secure the victory for his team.
Sudan's task became much harder when they received a red card. This meant they had to play with only 10 men for a significant part of the match.
The result gives Algeria three important points early in the tournament. Sudan will need to recover quickly in a difficult group.
