Hong Kong will keep two major border checkpoints open late on New Year's Eve. The move aims to manage the large crowds expected after midnight celebrations. The Lo Wu checkpoint will stay open until 2 a.m. on January 1. The Shenzhen Bay checkpoint for both people and vehicles will operate overnight. A government spokesman said public transport services will also increase. This will help travelers returning from mainland China to Hong Kong after the countdown.
