Electoral authorities declared Nasry Asfura the winner of Honduras' presidential election on Wednesday.
The announcement ends a weeks-long vote count. The prolonged process had weakened public trust in the nation's electoral system.
Asfura, the mayor of the capital city Tegucigalpa, had the strong support of former U.S. President Donald Trump. He represents the ruling National Party.
His main opponent, Xiomara Castro, had argued the delay was suspicious. She has not yet conceded defeat.
The election was seen as a test for Honduras's democracy. International observers had urged transparency throughout the count.
