The United States is deploying missile launchers and heavy weapons to a base in northeastern Syria. This military reinforcement comes as a major U.S. operation against ISIS continues in the country.
American cargo aircraft delivered the equipment to the Harab al-Jayr base in Hasakah. The move happens during "Operation Shining Gaze," the U.S. response to a recent ISIS attack.
That attack, in Palmyra last week, killed two U.S. soldiers and one civilian contractor. The ongoing operation aims to target ISIS networks responsible.
The weapons delivery strengthens the U.S. presence at a strategic base. Analysts see it as a signal of continued U.S. commitment to combat ISIS remnants in Syria, even as forces conduct retaliatory strikes elsewhere.
