A new survey reveals a major shift in Russian public opinion. For the first time, a clear majority now favors starting peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
The independent Levada Center found that 66% of Russians support peace talks. This is a record high. Only 29% believe the military operation should continue.
However, the same poll shows a complex picture. Despite wanting negotiations, 73% of respondents say they still support the actions of the Russian army. Analysts suggest this shows a strong separation in the public mind between supporting the troops and supporting a prolonged war.
The survey indicates that the public's primary concern is no longer military victory. It is now the growing economic and human cost of the conflict.
