Pope Leo XIV has issued a direct appeal for a worldwide ceasefire on Christmas Day.
In a statement from the Vatican on Tuesday, the Pope urged all parties in conflicts to lay down their arms for at least one day. He asked for respect for "a day of peace" to mark the holiday.
The call renews his longstanding request for a Christmas truce. The Pope specifically addressed his appeal to "all people of good will."
The request comes as numerous armed conflicts continue across multiple regions. Christmas Day is observed on December 25 by Christians worldwide as the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
