Federal prosecutors have filed five new charges against the suspect in a shooting at a District of Columbia National Guard facility. The attack resulted in the death of one service member and the injury of another.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, now faces additional federal counts. He is accused of murder and assault in the shooting of two U.S. military personnel.
Authorities say Lakanwal fatally shot Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom. He also allegedly wounded Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe at the D.C. National Guard Readiness Center.
The new charges follow an initial criminal complaint. The investigation into the motive for the attack is ongoing.
