A Turkish military training jet has crashed, killing all five people on board. The accident occurred near the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Thursday.
One of the victims was a high-ranking Libyan military official, General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad. He was the Libyan Army's Chief of Staff. The other four individuals killed were Turkish military personnel.
The aircraft was a T-37 training jet. It lost contact with air traffic control shortly after taking off from an air base in Ankara. The wreckage was later found in a rural area.
Turkish authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Both Turkey and Libya's internationally recognized government have confirmed the incident.
General al-Haddad was in Turkey for an official visit and had attended a meeting at the Turkish General Staff headquarters just before the flight.
