Armed gunmen kidnapped at least 28 travelers in central Nigeria on Saturday. The victims were on their way to an annual Islamic event in Plateau state.
Local sources reported the abduction but did not identify the attackers. The travelers were seized while in transit.
Kidnappings for ransom are common in parts of Nigeria. Criminal gangs frequently target roads and rural areas.
