Climate activist and author Bill McKibben says rapid advances in renewable energy have finally given the world a practical tool to fight global warming.
In a new interview, McKibben discusses the soaring potential of solar and wind power. He states these technologies can "at least shave some tenths of a degree off" future temperature rises.
His latest book, "Here Comes the Sun," explores this promise. McKibben first warned of climate change in his 1989 book, "The End of Nature."
He also addresses the global shift in energy leadership. According to McKibben, the United States has ceded its lead in the renewable sector to its main rival, China.
