Nvidia to Ship Restricted AI Chips to China Within Weeks
Nvidia plans to start shipping its advanced H200 artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China before the Lunar New Year in mid-February, according to three sources. The U.S. chip designer informed Chinese clients it will use existing stock to fill the first orders. Shipments are expected to include 5,000 to 10,000 modules. Each module contains multiple chips, meaning the total could reach 40,000 to 80,000 H200 units, two sources said. Nvidia has also told clients it intends to introduce new AI chip products for the Chinese market. The H200 is a high-performance chip designed for AI computing tasks. This move follows U.S. government restrictions that ban the sale of Nvidia's most powerful AI chips to China. The H200 chips for China are a modified version designed to comply with these export controls.
