An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Monday killed a Hezbollah member who also worked for Lebanese intelligence, according to the Israeli military.
The strike hit a vehicle near the coastal city of Sidon. Israel said it targeted a Hezbollah operative involved in planning attacks against Israel.
The Israeli army stated the man was also an employee of Lebanon's General Security Directorate. This suggests a direct link between the armed group and a state agency.
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the incident. The group and Israeli forces have exchanged near-daily fire across the border since the war in Gaza began.
The strike marks a significant escalation, as it occurred deeper inside Lebanon than most recent clashes.
