U.S. regulators have approved the first daily pill to treat obesity. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the oral version of the popular weight-loss drug Wegovy on Monday.
This decision gives the drug's maker, Novo Nordisk, a major advantage. The company is now ahead of rival Eli Lilly in the race to sell a pill for obesity. Lilly's own oral drug candidate is still awaiting FDA review.
The newly approved pill contains the same active ingredient as the injectable Wegovy. It offers a new, more convenient option for patients seeking medical treatment for chronic weight management.
