Chris Rea, Voice of Christmas Travel, Dead at 74

British singer-songwriter Chris Rea has died at age 74. His family confirmed his passing after a long illness. Ree first found fame in the late 1970s. His soulful ballad "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" became an international hit. He continued releasing music throughout the 1980s. However, he later created one of the world's most famous holiday songs. In 1986, he wrote and recorded "Driving Home for Christmas." The song describes the experience of holiday traffic. It was not an immediate major hit. But over decades, it became a seasonal classic. It is now played constantly each December in the UK and across Europe. Rea's career spanned over 40 years. He released more than 30 albums. He was also a respected blues guitarist. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and their two children.
