Hong Kong's New $40 Billion Road Confuses Drivers, Signs Rushed In
Hong Kong transport officials are adding more signs to a major new highway after public complaints. The move comes just one day after the road's successful opening. The affected section is part of the Central Kowloon Bypass in Yau Ma Tei. Authorities say the road itself operated smoothly after launching on Sunday. Approximately 50,000 vehicles used it on its first day. However, drivers reported that directional signage was inadequate and confusing. In response, crews are now installing additional signs to provide clearer instructions. Secretary for Transport Mable Chan confirmed the changes during a site inspection on Monday. She referenced traffic flow at the Gascoigne Road Flyover while assessing the situation. The Central Kowloon Bypass is a key infrastructure project. It is designed to reduce chronic congestion in one of the world's most densely populated cities.
