American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will deliver the United Kingdom's "Alternative Christmas Message" this year. The broadcast is a direct response to the traditional Christmas speech by the British monarch. It will air on Channel 4 at the same time as King Charles III's address. A Channel 4 spokesman stated Kimmel will use the message to condemn fascism and argue for the value of free speech. The Alternative Christmas Message has been a Channel 4 tradition since 1993. It often features voices critical of the establishment or overlooked by mainstream media. Past speakers have included figures like actress and mental health campaigner Sharon Horgan, and a deepfake version of Queen Elizabeth II. Kimmel's selection marks the first time a U.S. television host has been given the platform.
