Rapper Nicki Minaj called U.S. Senator JD Vance an "assassin" during a live appearance, creating an awkward moment at a conservative conference.
The incident occurred on stage at the Turning Point Action conference in Detroit. Minaj was speaking alongside Veronica Kirk, the widow of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
While praising Ohio Senator Vance, Minaj misspoke. "We have an assassin—I mean, a U.S. senator," she said, quickly correcting herself. The term "assassin" means a murderer, especially of a prominent person.
The rapper appeared embarrassed by the mistake. She immediately apologized to the crowd and clarified she meant to show support for Vance, who is a contender to be Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate.
The event continued without further disruption.
