A new investigation reveals popular skincare influencers are marketing advanced products to children. Many of these items contain ingredients unsuitable for young skin.
The analysis, by CBS News Confirmed, reviewed a dozen major skincare influencer accounts. It found two concerning practices. First, influencers frequently featured products with potent ingredients like retinoids and strong acids. Dermatologists say these are not appropriate for pre-teen skin.
Second, many posts were undisclosed brand partnerships or paid advertisements. This means the influencers were paid to promote the products, often without clearly telling their young audience.
This trend targets "tweens," children aged approximately 9 to 12. Experts warn that using these adult products can damage sensitive skin. It can also create unnecessary anxiety about appearance at a young age.
The report highlights a growing issue in social media advertising. Children are seeing paid content that may harm their skin health.
