UNICEF Chief: "We Are Failing" Gaza's Children

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell issued a stark warning about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza during a television interview. Speaking on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan," Russell stated that the situation for children is catastrophic. She described Gaza as the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. Russell reported that UNICEF teams face extreme difficulty delivering aid. She cited a severe lack of food, clean water, and medical care. The director emphasized that children are dying from preventable diseases and malnutrition. She called the conditions a "perfect storm" for tragedy. When asked, Russell said current aid efforts are insufficient. She urged an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to allow safe, large-scale aid delivery. "Children need life-saving assistance now," Russell stated. "We cannot afford to wait."
