The assassination of a Bangladeshi student protest leader has triggered violent unrest and sharply raised tensions with neighboring India.
Local reports state the attackers fled across the border into India following the killing. The incident intensifies a political crisis that began in August 2024 with mass protests. Those demonstrations forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign. She is also currently in refuge in India.
The killing of the prominent activist has ignited fresh street violence. Protesters are now directing anger toward both the current Bangladeshi administration and India, accusing it of sheltering their foes.
