Damascus International Airport is nearly finished installing an advanced air navigation system. Syrian aviation officials announced the upgrade on December 21.
The system is designed to reduce flight disruptions caused by bad weather. It specifically targets problems created by dense fog.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport made the statement on its Telegram channel. It said the new technology will help maintain smoother airport operations during poor conditions.
Officials did not give an exact date for the system to become fully operational. The announcement only states that installation is close to completion.
