The European Commission says Turkey keeps moving backward on judicial independence, free speech, and basic rights. The Commission's 2026 report on Turkey states that the decline is ongoing. It also calls on Turkey to comply with rulings from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the top court for human rights in Europe.
