Switzerland's highest court has ended a long legal case against a top soccer official.
The court confirmed the acquittal of Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. He was accused of wrongdoing in a case about World Cup television rights.
The charges were linked to Jérôme Valcke, the former secretary general of world soccer body FIFA. Swiss prosecutors had argued that Al-Khelaïfi tried to gain favor for media rights deals.
A lower court originally found Al-Khelaïfi not guilty in 2020. Prosecutors appealed, but the federal supreme court has now upheld that not-guilty verdict. This decision is final.
Al-Khelaïfi, who is also a senior figure in European soccer, has consistently denied any illegal activity. The ruling brings a definitive close to the Swiss criminal proceedings against him.
