Money to help poor countries cope with the climate crisis has been flat or falling since 2022, a new UN report reveals. This is despite growing damage from extreme weather and scientists' warnings that global heating may be speeding up.
The report says financial support for adaptation is far below what is needed. Adaptation means measures such as stronger infrastructure, early warning systems, flood protection and drought-resistant irrigation.
The funding is also far behind the promises rich countries made in 2021. Those pledges were already considered inadequate. Rich nations accepted them in recognition of their far greater responsibility for the climate crisis.
