A new public art project in downtown Los Angeles is directly challenging recent immigration raids. Every night, giant portraits of local residents are projected onto buildings along the busy 101 freeway.
Next to each face is a stark question: "Am I Next?"
The project is a response to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the city. Three LA arts institutions created it. They aim to show support for thousands of community members detained this year.
The illuminated images turn buildings into giant billboards. Organizers say the art calls attention to attacks on civil liberties. It asks who is safe from the government's immigration enforcement.
