Ukraine Hits Russian "Shadow" Oil Tanker in Mediterranean

Ukraine says it has attacked a Russian oil tanker in the Mediterranean Sea. This is the first time Ukraine has struck a vessel from Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" in these neutral waters. The strike was carried out by drones on Friday. The targeted tanker is part of a fleet Russia uses to bypass international sanctions on its oil exports. This "shadow fleet" operates by frequently changing the ships' registered flags and hiding their true ownership. This allows Russia to continue selling oil despite restrictions imposed after its invasion of Ukraine. The attack marks a significant expansion of Ukraine's drone campaign against Russian logistics. Previously, such naval drone strikes were largely confined to the Black Sea.
