Liberia's President Joseph Boakai has denied that a multi-million dollar villa being built in his home region is for his private use.
He stated the project in Foya, Lofa County, is a peace initiative for the Mano River Union (MRU). The MRU is a regional group focused on economic and security cooperation between Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ivory Coast.
"It is not my private project," Boakai said, addressing public criticism. He framed the development as a state effort to promote regional stability, not a personal residence.
The president's comments come amid public scrutiny over the cost and purpose of the construction. No further details about the villa's specific role in MRU peacebuilding were provided.
