The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) warns that AI-powered malware is "highly likely" to be used in attacks on the country's critical infrastructure by 2028.
The NCSC said AI will probably enable a ransomware attack against critical national infrastructure (CNI) within that period. CNI refers to essential facilities and services such as power stations, airports, hospitals, transport, defence, food and finance.
The agency expects attacks on these key sectors as AI tools make hacking easier and more effective.
