The first batch of long-sealed court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein was released Wednesday. The late financier was a convicted sex offender.
The U.S. Justice Department is overseeing the release. It follows a federal judge's order in December.
The documents come from a 2015 civil lawsuit. They are expected to name associates and describe the network of the multi-millionaire. Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled a suicide.
More documents are expected to be released in the coming days. The filings may contain sensitive details about alleged victims and powerful figures.
