Kinaan Dadou was seven years old when a Hamas rocket changed his life forever. On the morning of 7 October 2023, the rocket was fired at the Israeli settlement of Efrat in the occupied West Bank. It missed its target by a few hundred metres and exploded in front of the Dadou family home instead.
A piece of shrapnel struck Kinaan in the head. He stood rigid, his hands frozen at his sides, and screamed for his father before collapsing. An Israeli soldier who passed by promised to call an ambulance. No help came. Kinaan’s parents drove him to the hospital themselves, but chaos that day meant six hours passed before a doctor saw him. During that time, his brain was bleeding.
Kinaan, now 10, has been disabled since the attack. His parents are still struggling to find funding for the specialist treatment he needs. They ask a simple question: what was their crime?
