Three people were killed and eleven wounded in a rare mass stabbing across two Taipei metro stations on Friday night. The attack has shocked Taiwan.
Police have increased patrols in response. The suspected attacker, identified only by his surname Chang, first threw smoke grenades into the Taipei Main station. He fatally stabbed one person there.
He then ran to the nearby Zhongshan station and continued his violent spree. Police said he also exploded petrol bombs during the rampage.
The attacker later died after jumping from a building in an apparent suicide. The motive for the attacks is under investigation.
