Oleshky truce holds as 2,000 civilians await evacuation

A local ceasefire in the Russian-occupied southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky appeared to be holding on Tuesday, with both sides halting drone attacks ahead of a planned evacuation of about 2,000 trapped civilians. The temporary truce began at 3am. The frontline near the city had been quiet for the first time in years, according to reports. Oleshky sits on the Dnipro River, about 3 miles (5km) from Kherson, a larger city on the opposite bank that Ukrainian troops recaptured in autumn 2022. The evacuation is intended to allow desperate residents to leave the combat zone safely.
